Plantarflexion

Flexion at the ankle joint.

Posterior

Situated towards the back of the body. In other words if a structure is nearer the back of the body than another structure then we say it is posterior.

Proximal

This term can only be used to describe the limbs. It means to be nearer to the midline of the body.

Rotation

To turn the joint on its axis. Medial rotation is turning in the direction of the body. Lateral rotation is turning away from the body.

Superficial

Nearer the surface of the body or more external.

Tendon

A tendon joins a muscle to a bone.

Transverse Process

 Projection on either side of a verterbra.
>>

Trochanter

Bony process near the head of the femur.
>>

Tubercle

A small, rounded projection of a bone.
>>

Ventral

Equivalent to anterior.
